A haiku is a Japanese style poem which has three lines made by using 5, then 7, then 5 syllables.

Week Three Term Two

Science week

Science in a van :]

On the 3rd of May we went to the hall for science in a van there where two people that talked about science. We all learnt so much about science like we learnt about matter like the 3 states of matter are gas, solid and liquid.

 Growing crystals !

On Monday we made crystals

We needed: water

Salt       washer

Cups    string

Pencil    spoon

Steps: first you put hot water into a cup then we put loads of salt into the hot water then we stired it until the salt has disolvied then you tie the end of the string onto the washer then tie the other end of the string to the pencil. after leave the washer to create crystals on it also make sure the washer doesn’t touch the bottom of the cup.

Oobleck!

You will need:

Cornflour,    bowl,    spoon,

Water and a   baking tray

Steps: first you put the cornflour into the bowl then you add tiny bits of water at a time then keep stiring until its as thick as honey when it is you can hold it over the tray.

This week we made 'Ghost Bubbles' with dry ice and dish washing liquid. See the instructions here.
They looked really cool and we were inspired to write some descriptive poems to describe them.

Ghost Bubbles
Slimy gooey bubbles
when it pops it looks like a misty cloud
it feels like tiny bits of dust falling down

Bee Poems

We finished off our writing this term by creating poems about bees.

Bees are as sweet as an angel.
A bee is as fluffy as a bunny.
Ouch a bee stings me.
It feels like a needle plucked me. The worker bees work as hard as a maid.
The bee is buzzing around like a lawn mower.
By Sophia

Bees fly to a flower and it sounds like buzz.
Then she flew to New Zealand on a journey and made rich honey and got a lot of money.
Bee was yellow and black. When you see the bee it is like no other without bees we are dead.
Buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz.
Bees fly as fast as a person spiting for a medal.
By Amy

There was a bee that had lots of money
Who collected pollen and honey
She’s yellow and black
And lives in a shack
But now is no longer funny.
By Leela

Bees as bright as the morning sun
making yummy honey for your tummy
Springing from flower to flower making a soft buzzing sound
Working as hard as a builder carrying a big heavy pile of bricks
By Max

There was a bee that flew around
And could do this with no sound
She had three eyes
And liked to eat pies
But now cannot fly off the ground.
By Stella

Bees look like a stripy soldier,
Buzzing around your red towel,
Bee don’t go on that towel it not a flower,
Bees sound like a pepper shaker.
By Lachlan

Bees are a lovely thing
The make honey in the spring
You don’t have to kill Bees as they don’t sting
It sounds like a buzzing noise in my ear
Bees like honey because they are yummy.
By Mojdeh

I am black on a track with yellow stripes in the night
I eat chives with knives
Honey is good for my tummy
I get honey for my big fat tummy
By Lucia

The Bee
There was a bee from the city
That liked to fly hi
She’s working as hard as the teachers at meadow bank school
She makes everything good
By pollinating she’s really good
With her fluffy coat all around
By Sarah

A bee looks like a zebra with the wrong colours.
A bee sounds like a zipper going up and down.
A bee works as hard as a builder building a house.
By Fox

Bees as yellow in the morning sun buzzing around gathering nectar
Bees are yellow and black they live in a shack
There’s a queen in the hive that lives with chives
Everyone is no longer funny because the queen bee has lots of money
By William

The bees work as hard as god making the world, the bees fly like they’re in trouble. They sound like someone saying “zzz” the wrong way, bees as bright as the morning sun and as dark as the midnight sky.
By Blake

A bee sounds like a lawn mower.
She looks like night but with yellow strips.
She works as hard as a builder that carries a block.
