World Ocean Day
Monday was world ocean day and we did some research into how humans are effecting our oceans. We also played a game that taught us some of the names and locations of the worlds seas and oceans. It is in the 'Other Links' tab on the right.
Here are some of our reports about marine debris, what it is and how it effects our seas and oceans.

Here are some of our reports about marine debris, what it is and how it effects our seas and oceans.
Marine debris
Do
you know that anything could be marine debris? Some people litter and don’t
care. They don’t realise that they could kill an animal. Animals especially in
the sea aren’t as smart as people. They can mistake a plastic bag for jelly
fish
Causes
Animals
aren’t as good at seeing as humans. They could mistake anything for food.
Effects
Sea
living animals die. If they die they will be left on the beach to create more
marine debris.
What you can do to help
· Don’t litter
· Make sure when you put
something in the rubbish it stays in the rubbish.
· Recycle

Marine
debris is when rubbish is in the water and kills sea life.
Main causes
of marine debris are people littering and fishing nets falling over board, try
not to let these things happen please!!!!
Main effects
of marine debris are fish dying, turtles getting endangered, and having yucky
oceans. Also in about 4 years the Great Barrier Reef will be gone because of
marine debris.
What you
can do to help is stop littering and be
careful where you put your rubbish.
By Josh
I’m going to
tell you about marine debris.
Marine debris
is when people litter on beaches and litter on water.
If you
litter on water fish will think its food, and the fish will eat the litter.
We eat fish
and if fish swallow litter we might the litter when we eat fish.
If we do not
do anything we won’t want to swim at the beaches that have heaps of litter on
them.
Do you want to swim on a beach with heaps of
litter on it?
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP
You can go
on trips to pick up litter. And when you see people littering tell them not to.
Put you litter in a safe place when you’re on a boat. Never ever dump you net
your fishing net when it gets tangled in a rock
By William

Marine debris is when you put rubbish in the ocean.
If
you put any of these things in the sea animals might die by Plastic,
Rubber, Trash, Paper,
Nets, metal, Plastic bags, Drink bottles and Rubbish.
Problem
If rubbish nets and lots of thing get in the sea or ocean
animals will die because nets will tangle the animals. So don’t litter. All
rubbish is bad for the sea so don’t litter. That is what marine debris is.

Marine debris
Have
you ever heard of marine Debris? Well it is when there is rubbish all in the
water. The reason I'm talking to you about marine Debris is because it is
polluting our ocean. Would you like to swim in a polluted ocean? The other
reason is that it is killing our sea animals.
Causes
Things
that cause sea animals to die are metal, rubbish, plastic, which is most
common, fishing nets and lines, paper, tires and 6 pack rings. Also boats which
drive past their fishing nets and rods could fall off and can catch all the sea
animals, storm drains sometimes have rubbish going down the drain and then the
rubbish will get washed down the pipes in the ocean and fish will eat all the
rubbish and die. Sometime fishers even throw there rubbish over board.
Effects
The
effects of it is that it is killing sea animals, like choking, eating and
getting hooked stuck down their throat. They could even become extinct.
Conclusion
If
this keeps happening to sea animals there will be no more of them. So make sure
there's no Marin debris in the water. Start picking up rubbish for the animals,
environment and us.

Marine debris is rubbish in the ocean and sea. It is also
killing sea life and sea homes.
Do not throw rubbish in the ocean or sea and on land. Fisher
man are losing fishing gear like: nets, rods and fishing nylon. Sometimes you
can accidently drop rubbish outside, on land, beaches and seas. It is us that
is causing marine debris.
It is killing animal’s habitats. Plastic bags are killing
our turtles because the turtles think they are jelly fish. It can kill animals
like: seals, turtles, fish and other sea animals like that. It can kill the sea
animals like that. It can kill the sea world. A lot of sea animals get caught in the net’s from fisher men.
Sometimes metal rings can get stuck around turtles neck and it can grow with
the turtles neck as it gets older.
We can start to pick up rubbish from the beach, ocean, sea
and lakes. Stop throwing rubbish on the ground. It can make a big deference to
the world
By Lucia
Marine debris is rubbish or in water and if
rubbish goes to the sea fish will eat the rubbish then they will get sick die
and the food will not die digest in their body.
Anything can be marine debris and if you throw
stuff into the water you will go to jail because it is against the law.
If a rubbish bin is full and there is a plastic
bin you must put the plastic stuff in the plastic bin and that will make the
bin less full.
And sometimes nets wheels will get caught in
seaweed and fish will not have homes to stay in.
And if you want to help you can pick up rubbish
and that will save the environment.

Marine debris
Do you know that marine debris happens in water?” well
you said marine so of course it happens
in water ‘’ but do you what debris means ‘’hmmm no’’ it means rubbish.
It caused so many animals dying. When fish or other an
animals that we also eat marine debris .Us humans cause marine debris.
Marine debris breaks habitat of sea animals. Marine
debris can be anything, for example a net floating around can catch sea
animals. Millions of sea animals are dying.
We can help by not littering. For more information go to the trash talk website.

Marine
Debris
A
Marine Debris is a patch pollution (Rubbish) in the ocean.
Causes
If
someone litters somewhere then the rubbish could easily blow away and land in a
drain or a nearby river or beach and all that water leads to the ocean. And that
will affect all the animals in the ocean and even some rivers!
Effects
Some
of effects are that when the animals see rubbish they sometimes mistake it for
food and when they do they could get tangled or strangled and then they could
die. Sometimes when turtles see metal rings they sometimes get their necks
stuck by swimming through them by accident. And they could get strangled or it
could grow into their skin.
If
people don't stop littering then all the animals will die and the ocean will be
very dirty and all the sea creatures will be gone!

Week Three Term Two
Science week
Science in a van :]
On the 3rd of
May we went to the hall for science in a van there where two people that talked
about science. We all learnt so much about science
like we learnt about
matter like the 3 states of matter are gas, solid and liquid.
Growing crystals !

We
needed: water
Salt washer
Cups string
Pencil spoon
Steps:
first you put hot water into a cup then we put loads of salt into the hot water
then we stired it until the salt has disolvied then you tie the end of the
string onto the washer then tie the other end of the string to the pencil. after
leave the washer to create crystals on it also make sure the washer doesn’t
touch the bottom of the cup.
Oobleck!
You will
need:
Cornflour, bowl,
spoon,
Water and
a baking tray
Steps:
first you put the cornflour into the bowl then you add tiny bits of water at a
time then keep stiring until its as thick as honey when it is you can hold it
over the tray.
This week we made 'Ghost Bubbles' with dry ice and dish washing liquid. See the instructions here.
They looked really cool and we were inspired to write some descriptive poems to describe them.
Ghost Bubbles
Slimy gooey bubbles
when it pops it looks like a misty cloud
it feels like tiny bits of dust falling down

Bee Poems
We finished off our writing this term
by creating poems about bees.
Bees are as sweet as an angel.
A bee is as fluffy as a bunny.
Ouch a bee stings me.
It feels like a needle plucked me. The worker bees work as hard as a
maid.
The bee is buzzing around like a lawn mower.
By Sophia
Bees fly to a flower and it sounds like buzz.
Then she flew to New Zealand on a journey and made rich honey and got a
lot of money.
Bee was yellow and black. When you see the bee it is like no other without
bees we are dead.
Buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz.
Bees fly as fast as a person spiting for a medal.
By Amy
There was a bee that had lots of money
Who collected pollen and honey
She’s yellow and black
And lives in a shack
But now is no longer funny.
By Leela
Bees as bright as the morning sun
making yummy honey for your tummy
Springing from flower to flower making a soft buzzing sound
Working as hard as a builder carrying a big heavy pile of bricks
By Max
There was a bee that flew around
And could do this with no sound
She had three eyes
And liked to eat pies
But now cannot fly off the ground.
By Stella
Bees look like a stripy soldier,
Buzzing around your red towel,
Bee don’t go on that towel it not a flower,
Bees sound like a pepper shaker.
By Lachlan
Bees are a lovely thing
The make honey in the spring
You don’t have to kill Bees as they don’t sting
It sounds like a buzzing noise in my ear
Bees like honey because they are yummy.
By Mojdeh
I am black on a track with yellow stripes in the night
I eat chives with knives
Honey is good for my tummy
I get honey for my big fat tummy
By Lucia

There was a bee from the city
That liked to fly hi
She’s working as hard as the teachers at meadow bank school
She makes everything good
By pollinating she’s really good
With her fluffy coat all around
By Sarah
A bee looks like a zebra with the wrong colours.
A bee sounds like a zipper going up and down.
A bee works as hard as a builder building a house.
By Fox
Bees as yellow in the morning sun buzzing around gathering nectar
Bees are yellow and black they live in a shack
There’s a queen in the hive that lives with chives
Everyone is no longer funny because the queen bee has lots of money
By William
The bees work as hard as god making the world, the bees fly like they’re
in trouble. They sound like someone saying “zzz” the wrong way, bees as bright
as the morning sun and as dark as the midnight sky.
By Blake
A bee sounds like a lawn mower.
She looks like night but with yellow strips.
She works as hard as a builder that carries a block.

Bee Days
On Thursday we had a Year 4 bee day. We had a go at making bee related products as part of our bee topic. Thank you to all of the lovely parent helpers who came along. We really could not have done it without you.
After making the products, we came back to class to write instructions for the things we made. Read some of these below.
On Friday Sue came into talk to use about her bee hives and how she gets honey from them. It was really interesting.
Before assembly we watched this video all about bees and why they are important and how we can help. We have been doing our own writing about this in class. See that below too.
You will need:
1. Bees wax
2. Wick
First you get the wax then you get the wick after you place the wick on the edge of the bees wax then you roll the wax and the wick up really tight so it will make a cylinder shape and your done there you go your very own bees wax candle.
This kind of bees wax is actually recycled because if you were a bee keeper you won’t be able to do anything with the bees wax but now you can by making a candle.

Lunch Wraps
Today we
made reusable lunch wraps.
You will
need: beeswax, fabric, a pencil, a ruler, something to cut the fabric and a
grinder.
What to do:
Cut the
fabric into a square.
Grind the
beeswax onto a plate using a grinder
Put the
beeswax on the fabric put the fabric in the oven. And now you have a reusable
lunch wrap.
Please wash
it in hot water.

How to make
a bees wax candle
I am going
to tell you how to make a bees wax candle candles have been around for over
5,000 years.
First you
will need: a sheet of wax paper and a wick
Firstly you
put the wick on the edge of the wax. Next you roll up the wax. Finally you
press the end of the wax down so it doesn’t flap around.
And that’s
how you make a bees wax candle.

Seed bombs
What is a
seed bomb?
A seed bomb
is a big seed that grows by itself.
In London
there are soldiers called gorilla solider, they go into damp and not nice
places and threw seed bombs onto the land and make the place a better one.
You need…
Clay, dirt,
water, seeds and a container.
First get
the container and put in a little dirt and add a clump of clay. Next ad more
dirt then add more water and mash and squish it up add the seeds and put it out
to dry.
What can you
do with it?
You can put
it in your garden and it will grow and you don’t have to plant or water as long
as it has got rain.
By Jordan
WALT: Instruct
How to make seed bombs
Seed bombs are good for the bees because they plan more
flowers and you don’t have to water them.
Step 1. First get some clay then put it in a bucket with soil
then mix it around.
Step 2. Next pour some water into the bucket with the soil.
Step 3. Roll it into a ball and put some seeds in it and then
leave it to dry. And then you can give it to someone or throw it in your garden
and grow beautiful flowers to look at and that the bees can eat the nectar from.

Bees
You can run
through the forest hearing the soft humming and buzzing of bees. So if you like
honey and food you better help save the bees do you want to live save the bees
1/3 of the food you eat is good because of bees so do something know.
We need to do
something about bees dying all over the world. If we don’t do something the
world will end us humans and animals.
So help the
bees.
Bees are
important not just with honey but with our survival without bees,
